RJMJ Art Appraisal
Rachel established her art appraisal services in 2013 after several years as the manager of the permanent collection of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Owen Sound Ontario. Through her experience, overseeing an expanding collection of Canadian authorship, Rachel has extensive knowledge of Canadian Art History and Contemporary Practices. Her growing appraisal business is complemented by her collections management expertise and discretionary approach to dispersal for estates and resale purposes.
In her past roles in the public museum sector, Rachel’s responsibilities included the hiring of the services of appraisers for charitable donation purposes on behalf of donors. This experience has given her a clear understanding of the needs between the donor and the recipient institution to ensure that appraisals for both the Canada Revenue Agency and the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board are completed in a timely and professional manner. As well as charitable donation appraisals, Rachel can accommodate your appraisal needs for insurance purposes, pre-sale or restoration considerations and estate planning.
Rachel Monckton is a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), ensuring her business practices follow the guidelines of the ISA and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice. Rachel studied Visual Arts (Honours Specialization) at the University of Western Ontario, with an interest in Modern and Contemporary Art. Rachel is an active member of the Canadian Chapter of the ISA and served 3 years as chair of the Professional Development Committee.
